Spiritual Health Equals Physical Health

By Dominique Currie

God knows our bodies so intricately. He is the only one who can search our hearts, and as it is said inPsalm 139:13; 15-16: “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb…My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body”.

Since God knows us and created us, HE holds the power to cure and heal. He didn’t create us to suffer in infirmity and disease. He gave us the tools to defeat the enemy! We live in a world that is more spiritual than natural and the quicker we realize this, the better. God doesn’t make mistakes. Infirmity and disease are not something we are supposed to live with. Jesus Christ died a criminal’s death and rose again; and in that powerful Resurrection lies every healing we need for spirits of infirmity, sickness, disease, bondage, addiction, etc.; not to mention, He gave us the Holy Spirit! One of my favorite things to say is that I want ALL of what was made available to me at the cross!

There is a direct correlation between sin and disease because Deuteronomy 28 says so. Deuteronomy 30 also states that disobedience to God and His Word and not staying in covenant with Him will open the door to the curse.

This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.”Deuteronomy 30:19-20

Romans 6:23 says that the wages of sin is death, and Romans 8:13 says “For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.”

God knows that sin is harmful to us physically, mentally, and spiritually. The effects of a sinful life tend to manifest spiritually first more than naturally, so mankind doesn’t always feel as if we are truly reaping what we are sowing. But we will! Galatians 6:7 says “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.” God takes sin seriously. So seriously that Christ had to die to take care of our sins once and for all.

God is also pretty serious about gossip and slander. He groups gossiping in the same category as murderers, thieves, and evildoers. Entertaining these spirits can affect your inner being causing all matters of disease and sickness. Proverbs 18:21states “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”

Speaking of eating our words:

Proverbs 18:8: The words of a talebearer are like tasty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the body.

As you can see, words are often pictured in the Bible as food. We receive it inside, and the effects of eating in the natural are being full, gaining weight, etc. This is a manifestation of having eaten, in the Spirit—same thing. Sickness and disease are the effects of what we have spiritually eaten.

Always keep in mind the power of the tongue. The words we speak about ourselves and about others are living entities that have the ability to manifest in either good ways or bad ways. The Bible says that if you gossip / slander about your neighbor, you are a murderer.

I John 3:14-15 says “We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. Anyone who does not love remains in death. Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life in him.”

1 Peter 4:15: But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters.”

Romans 13:9: For this, "YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, YOU SHALL NOT MURDER, YOU SHALL NOT STEAL, YOU SHALL NOT COVET," and if there is any other commandment, it is summed up in this saying, "YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF."

Our thoughts also can also cause us to be spiritually unhealthy. 2 Corinthians 10: 3-5 shows us that our battle is spiritual and because of that fact, we MUST cast away any thought that does not line up with the Word of God. That means we cannot afford to worry about anything. God tells us in Philippians 4:6 to “be anxious for nothing.” Worrying is both unnecessary and also a manifestation of a spirit of Pride. Pride says I can figure out what needs done. Worrying is the act of making your problem bigger than the mighty God we serve. Worrying involves your flesh trying to solve a problem better left to God to handle.

Keep in mind that the joy of the Lord is your strength! Philippians 4:4 says “Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice!” So praise the Lord your God! Why?

Because the Bible says that Laughter and Joy can strengthen your Immune System.“A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” Proverbs 17:22.

This passage of Scripture shows that when we feel badly about ourselves, it can affect how our body acts. Can you see how the Word of God keeps us healthy? That’s why it is of DIRE IMPORTANCE that we believe what the Bible says about us, not how we feel about ourselves:

Psalm 139:14a: I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

Genesis 1:28: So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

The secret to spiritual health is casting down a spirit of PRIDE and meditating not on what WE think of OURSELVES, but to remember what God has said about us:

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” Psalm 139: 14-16

"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." Jeremiah 1:5

And if that’s what God says about us, then let’s bring Romans 3:4a into play where it says “God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar...” That’s it! End of discussion. Period.

Be in health, sis! You have all the tools and serve a God who is mightier than ANY affliction, disease, infirmity or any other demonic power from the pits of Hell. What a mighty God we serve!
