When Will Enough Be Enough?

There are thousands of images that flood our sight each day. Images that hope to either distract us, dampen our spirits, or steal our joy. We get sucked into a tidal wave that seems so amazingly beautiful from afar, but realize once within its mighty grasp it takes much effort to become free. So, we reach out to YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, & Reality television to find something solid to hold onto, and in that vain attempt we find ourselves in a deep sea of comparison.

Thomas Edison penned the phrase; “Comparison is the thief of joy.” Comparison not only robs us of joy, but it also tries to steal our confidence, worth, and everything else that our Savior died to implant within us.

The enemy is persistent. He takes our insecurities and wraps them around his finger. We become a marionette, controlled by the ultimate manipulator. With every jerk of his wrist, we become trapped into a downward cycle that seeks to consume every part of us. He starts with our thoughts and begins to whisper to us we aren’t good enough, we aren’t as pretty as the next woman, and our skills & abilities are sub par. All of which begin to sink deeper into us, slowly crippling us.

When will enough be enough? When will we tire of being drug into the mud, and having our confidence ripped at the seams? When will we get fed up with allowing the enemy to have his way with us, subliminally placing us in front of others to distort our true reflection?

Let today be that day where enough is enough. We have gifts that need opening, and voices that need to be heard to advance the kingdom. But this cannot happen if we continue to passively allow the devil to speak lies into us. Ultimately extinguishing the light designed to radiate from us. So ladies we must fight; this is WAR!

After years of allowing the devil to speak into my life, I admit it’s hard to “destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ” (1 Corinthians 10:5). However, the battles that confront you and I aren’t meant to be fought alone. Ephesians 6:10 explain that we must be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. God is here to help us walk through every flaming dart that the enemy sends our way. His Word is meant to protect us and can be used as an instruction manual; giving us direction on how to “stand against the schemes of the devil” (Ephesians 6:11).

Ladies we must get fed up with allowing the devil to wreck havoc in our life. Let us begin to:

1. Pray for the strength of God to cover every area of weakness in our lives.

2. Search for scriptures we can mediate on and will destroy the devil’s attempt to lead us astray.
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10)

“… I made my vow to you and entered into a covenant with you, declares the Lord God, and you became mine.” (Ezekiel 16:8)

“You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God.” (Isaiah 62: 3)

3. Surround ourselves with other women who will encourage us spiritually.

4. Grow in mature in the word so we wont be tossed to and fro by the waves. (Ephesians 4:14)

Carry the word in your heart ladies. No one’s beauty, skills, or abilities can disqualify us from this journey. Let us continue to walk this journey, but with a renewed mindset that shouts, “we are enough”.

Slow Down, Release, Trust

I live fast…literally. I race through life, living for the next hour, day, week and month. Before I can reach my destination, which I was so intensely yearning for, I gravitate to the next glittery object that is just barely out of reach. I chase after perfect moments that I hope will encapsulate the visions that I have created… of course never reaching them. Leaving me disappointed and off to chase after yet another “perfect” vision. Living this way destroys the idea of living in the moment, and I often find myself out of breath; looking in so many directions at once.  Searching for that key that I think will unlock my heart’s desires.

Recently God laid it on my heart to slow down. Slow down not only my actions but also my thoughts. Slow down and wrap myself in His love, glory, and presence.

Too often distractions take me on journeys that weren’t meant to be started, leaving me in a place where I am craving something solid and lasting.  Leading my flesh to seek a substitute that claims it has the ability to satisfy that emptiness. Although I can’t slow down life or eliminate every distraction, I can focus on one solid being: My Savior. I can look above distractions and look to him for fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11). Mediate on his word that lets me know that I have no good thing a part from him, and use that as an anchor that will draw me nearer and keep me in his presence.  An anchor that isn’t meant to prevent me from enjoying life, but to be a stable force when turbulent winds arise and to keep me on the path set before me.

In the midst of our flesh urging us to think or worry about tomorrow, and seek purpose and fulfillment in the world we can latch ourselves onto something real. Something that won’t drop us when we need to be held the most. God is our anchor, holding us down when the world wants to toss us to and fro. Clinging and focusing on our Savior will slow us down; helping to eliminate running purposeless races. We will find depth in an endless satisfying love and truth that will truly unlock our heart’s desires. Satisfying us in a way that “perfect” moments never could and never will. When our gaze is on him we become intentional in obeying and glorifying him. Releasing our faith becomes easier and we can begin to step into a disposition of trust.

David says in Psalm 16: 8,9 8 “I set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. 9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being dwells secure.” Verse 9 reflects David’s joy when he understands setting God before him leaves him secure.  God is there to protect, lead and guide if we choose to let him do so. We have to lay down our idols, our own hearts desires and trust that God will give us what we need. Stop running after placebo fillings, and release our faith knowing that God  “is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think…” It’s not in our own strength however, but the power of Him that works in us (Ephesians 3:20).

Let us slow down today, and step into God’s truth. Declare to the world, our flesh, and the enemy that we are secure in God and in His presence is FULLNESS of joy.  There will be times when the world looks enticing, our flesh is weak, and the enemy is drawing near…. we must be bold and take a step in the opposite direction no matter how much we want to feed our cravings. Yes its difficult, but we will have much joy when we begin to walk on the path that God has set before us. We wont get there with one giant leap- it’s a process, but if we are consistent and take the steps anointed for us to take each day it will become easier for us to slow down…release…and trust.

Surrendering Your All

There is a song by Deitrick Haddon titled “Have Your Way” and just as the title suggests, the song invites the Lord to have his way concerning our entire being. The lyrics seem as though they are lifted right out of my soul; they explain that after all of the trying, rebellion, and sin that has widened the gap between us and our savior, we no longer desire that way of life. We simply want the Lord to have His way in us. We have arrived at the point where we have had enough and we surrender. These words are used to form a prayer I share with my Abba, but sadly have sparked no real change in any of my actions.

This last time the song came on, God made me think, “Do I really mean the words I sing, do I know what it means to surrender?” The words that flowed out of my mouth were real and I can honestly say each time I cried out to God, it was from the heart. However, once the worship was over and life began, my actions did not align with those surrendering words. We must ask ourselves do our actions align with our worship, or do we merely want God to transform us because we tell Him to, without giving our all to Him?

Merriam-Webster defines surrender as: To give up completely or agree to forgo especially in favor of another.

The Free Dictionary defines it as: To give up or give back (something that has been granted).

Both definitions suggest that in order to surrender we must give all of ourselves. The Free Dictionary also provides an excellent point that we are not giving up something that is ours, but essentially when we surrender to God, we are giving Him what is rightfully His. How would we feel if someone only gave us back only half of what was ours? We shouldn’t only give God the areas we want fixed or won’t affect us, if we make the decision to surrender we must know God deserves all of us.

Surrendering means trusting God, humbling ourselves, and being ready and willing to do whatever He asks us to do. We will make mistakes, and will not always get everything right, but our mindset should be that no matter what we will keep dying to our flesh and letting God use us.

We all want to let God use us and to be more like Him, and I know I gloss over what it really means and imagine the blessings that will come forth. However without sacrifice, obedience, and suffering we will fall short of becoming more like Him. The absence of those will actually prevent us from allowing God to have His way within us. Surrendering means choosing God over my emotions, and denying my flesh when I want to sleep instead of spending time with Him. It means being bold and audacious, and inviting Him into every area of my life. Let us not be afraid of giving ourselves completely to God, and losing our life for Him. Know that once we let go we will find ourselves in a better place.

Matthew 16: 24-26, “24Then Jesus said to his disciples, ‘If any one would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it. 26 What good will it be of a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?’”

For Your Maker is Your Husband

16… For, as it is written, ‘The two will become one flesh.’ 17 But he is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with Him. “1 Corinthians 6:16-17.

When we accept Christ as our Savior we slip on a ring, covered not in diamonds but in blood. A ring that symbolizes the sacrifice that was made for us, giving us the ability to walk down the aisle and step into justification; We are qualified & proved to be just and right, reconciliation; We are repaired, restored, and the gap is closed between us and Christ, and sanctification; We are set apart for a special purpose. The veil is lifted from our eyes and we have the opportunity to become intimate with one who has pursued us since inception. We are drawn near to our Savior and become one with His Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17); we develop a relationship that sets the tone for our life.

A relationship that consumes every void, casts out darkness, and sets us free from the chains of the world.

Our maker is our husband. We can release and know that our leader will direct and guide; that He wont be ashamed of us of in public and will listen to us as we spill out all of our worries, thoughts, and endless details. Our maker is our husband. This needs to be engraved in our hearts and our minds; it must be a thought that permeates through our entire being constantly. It's simply refreshing to know that our Abba is our husband and cares deeply about us. Before we expend all of our time and energy on “finding” an earthly husband, we need to glorify and submit to our first husband…our Maker.

The Word states that our maker is our husband, but what does this truly mean. It means that we are in a committed relationship with Him, even after physical death. Christ as our husband means that we are in a marriage, a covenant that promises love, security, unity, and a new life. “And to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness” (Ephesians 4:24). We are simply fulfilled in every way. Christ simply wants us to develop a relationship with Him, and we have the opportunity to bypass flirting, courting, and engagement. He rewards us with commitment as soon as we ask Him to enter into our life.

The bible is packed full of scripture that lets us know that our relationship with Christ is that of a marriage. Acknowledging that we are the bride of Christ, his wife, will give us a new perspective on life. We will have a new level of confidence when we know that we are connected to a strong source and not wandering aimlessly in life without a guide. We can smile more, develop and grow in a nurturing environment, and have a place where we can be ourselves. Although we are the wife of Christ, we don’t escape the trials of this world. We will have to sacrifice, learn how to trust that our maker will make the right decision, and go through tests that will refine us. But the marriage will be what we need to get through it all.

Accepting Christ as our Savior creates a lifelong bond and covenant that will carry us through life. It’s a sweet union that is free for us to enter. We don’t have to pay for a wedding dress, a venue, or flowers. All we need is Christ (He is always with us) willingness to have our life changed by His blood, and accept that he died for us. It’s as simple as that. Our maker is our husband. This is something I want to meditate on and truly have it soak into every area. It’s beautiful and gives me a sense of belonging. His love is endless, and life changing. I encourage you to do the same. Meditate on this and the fact that you are not alone. You are a wife, and not an ordinary wife, but the wife of Christ.

Take some time and make a vow with Christ and let it be known that you are taken. If you have already entered into a relationship with Christ draw closer, He’s wants you to go deeper. Just know that your maker is your husband.

I, ____, take you, Christ, to be my lawfully wedded husband…

A Simple Reminder: He's Coming

God's Creating a Piece of Art

Consider how the sun and the moon settle (if only for split seconds) into their positions each day. It’s a process; there is a beginning, middle, and an end. A set of actions that afford us the opportunity to view the bright sun during the day and the solemn moon at night. What if the sun didn’t take the time to rise and set each day? Although we would receive the same benefits from the sun just appearing and disappearing each day, we would miss the beauties in the transition. The transition that offers us a glimpse of seeing waves of pinks and oranges that stain the sky’s canvas as the sun fades into the horizon & peeks into each day. It’s the process that creates those vivid images. Imagine if we simply became, there would be no masterpieces, nothing to appreciate, nothing to look back and thank God for.
God does not simply place us in perfection or in our desires; we must learn and journey towards it. It takes time…
The same goes for our future husband. In Genesis 2: 8-23, we see that although God had the ability to make Eve appear He didn’t. There was work to be done. He could have sped up the process and had Eve among the creations that Adam named, but again he didn’t. There was a masterpiece to be created.
God can position us in front of our future husband at any time, but God wants us to finish the work that is in front of us. He wants to take His time and create a piece of art that we can marvel at. Adam appreciated the process and proclaimed, “This is at last bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman because she was taken out of Man” (Genesis 2:23). I believe we all want to be able to proclaim that we are ‘one’ with our husbands’…bone of his bone and flesh of his flesh. To experience this, we must remember it takes time. Don’t settle for the knock-off because its there, or the half finished product. Dismiss the lies that your piece of art has been discarded or there isn’t one out there for you. God is in the process of sculpting, molding, and staining your future mate as we speak. The refreshing thing is that His hands will have touched every part of him if you let Him finish his work.
He’s coming; God’s working. Whenever you get impatient or think that God has forgotten about you look at the sunrise or sunset and remember the piece of art in the sky. Your creation is coming.

It's a Perfect Fit

Writing at times is such a smooth process for me, flowing from my mind right onto the paper in one continuous movement. But lately I’ve been spending a lot of time writing, rewriting, and reconstructing the words I had thought were perfect just a few moments ago. Straining for perfection, and mirroring myself against other writers, I tripped and was blind to MY purpose, blind to the purpose of MY writing. Somewhere between the beginning and middle, the lines have blurred, and I’ve wandered into a whirlwind of traffic. Lost in someone else’s vision, wondering why I can’t find my way out. In these moments, I have to catch myself before I get to deep, and constantly implore that He [the Lord] close the gate that I aimlessly wandered into.

It’s so easy to get consumed into the lives of others; one moment you view them as a healthy form motivation and the next you’re coveting and trying to play dress up in their purpose. Only to realize that it doesn’t fit. Take off her purpose sister! God has designed your purpose the exact way he wanted it to be. He didn’t intend for you to use a refurbished purpose, or borrow one from your friends. He created and blew his breath into a purpose that was intricately designed for you. We don’t have to run back and forth trying to emulate the outer appearance of other’s “designs”. God has given us a key to unlock the precious gift He has placed inside of us. We just have to use our key to unlock OUR door.

1 Corinthians 12:12-26, helps us to understand that there is purpose in every one of us. Two verses in particular stand out to me,”18 But in fact, God has arranged the parts of the body, everyone of them, just as he wanted them to be. 19 If they were all one part; where would the body be?”

It’s so refreshing to know that you and I are set apart. If God didn’t intend for us to each have our own purpose and unique characteristics he would have stopped at Eve, Sarah, Hannah or Ruth. There would have been no reason to create you or me; everything would have been fulfilled in them. But this wasn’t his plan, he needed you to come into this world to make your mark and help bring other women closer to Him. Maybe it’s your smile that invites people in, or your calm nature that helps to eliminate worry or stress. Your sister’s smile cannot come close in accomplishing what yours can. You may be thinking my smile or [insert your purpose or gift]…that’s it? Ms. So-and-so looks so fulfilled and blessed operating in her abundance of gifts. That is often where we take the wrong step; we focus so intensely on the gifts of others that we place our own on a lower shelf or stop cultivating what God has placed inside of us. Who knows what God may have in store for us, but we may overlook the blessing, gift, or increase because we have someone else’s vision blocking our view. I encourage you to take a look in your closet and marvel at what the Lord has placed inside. Start sporting your custom pieces that your Father has created for you. I guarantee that a peace like no other will wash over you when you begin to use what God poured in you. Don’t be ashamed or shy away thinking that what you have isn’t good enough, or as good as others. If it comes from God there is nothing that can come close to being better for you.

Whether you are just stepping into your purpose, on the path to discovering your purpose, or fulfilling your purpose, stay true to you. Morphing into everything around you isn’t healthy, you cannot do it all nor should you try to. Just like 1 Corinthians 12:19 says, “ …if we were all one part where would the body be.” We need our sisters with their unique characteristics and gifts to form one body, and aid in areas that may need support or refinement.

Remember: You are the twinkle of God’s eye. He loves you so much; he would never ‘skip’ you or ‘forget’ to give you what you deserve. Take the time to nurture and care for your seed, you will be blown away at what will be unearthed. Put on your purpose today Sister; it's a perfect fit.

Has Your Definition Changed?

By Chanale Propst

Purity. A word that we have ripped and stretched to conform to our lives, no longer has its shape. It has been molded to fit the comfort of our actions. No longer do we adjust to its standards, but we take matters into our own hands and maneuver around edges and boundaries, ensuring that we are close yet still far away.

I had been there, shaping and conforming purity to how I wanted it to be defined. Judging my actions to those on television, and believing that no one followed biblical rules that were established over 2000 years ago, I mean its 2013 (2011 at the time)! I began to convince myself that those rules were meant to evolve and transform to fit our world today… Some things you just don’t see until you take a step back and focus, wake up with that hangover-like mentality (what did I do?!), or you stop doing YOU… and realize that you should be doing what God wants you to do. I thank God that all three happened to me. Although I wished I could have realized that my definition wasn't the one that I should have been following before I put it to use, I now recognize that his definition was created to bring me closer. A pure life closes the gap, and it gives me the opportunity to ultimately be more like God and have an intimate relationship with him. I need to be close to him, and leading an impure life is like holding God’s hand while you are on one side of the fence and he is on the other.

Webster defines purity as unmixed with any other matter, being this and no other, and free from what vitiates, weakens, or pollutes. We cannot get as close as God would like for us to because of the pollution and ‘mixed matter’ that we bring into our lives. It weakens us and pulls us further away from where we should be. However, purity is the sledgehammer that destroys the fence that separates us from our father, and brings us closer to him. Although it is 2013, we must still abide by the rules that our Heavenly Father has set. No matter what the television says about a 3-month rule, or what songs say about feeding into the urge of “getting some” outside of marriage, we will NEVER grow out of his rules, or get to a point to where we can advance to where we can create our own.

Psalm 119:9 says, “How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word”

Leading a pure life begins by first following God’s word. It is his word that gives us the guidelines for purity. Without those guidelines our own definition will be formed, quickly causing a tear in our relationship with God. His word tells us that we must purify ourselves from EVERYTHING that contaminates body and spirit (2 Corinthians 7:1). This verse brings into focus that purity does not only relate to sexual purity (before marriage), but it covers our thoughts, actions, and words. We must constantly ask ourselves are we walking in purity, and are we aligning to God’s Word and not our own.

Mark 7:15 says, “What goes out of a man defiles him.” We must choose to produce actions, thoughts, and words that glorify God, and break loose from the holds of our surroundings. By exercising self-control (a fruit of the spirit that dwells within us) we can choose not to curse, not to have an attitude, and not to engage in sexual activity before marriage. So often we give into our feelings and let our emotions take control. I have been guilty of saying, “I can’t help it”; which is always a bold face lie. I could help it; I just didn’t choose to do so at the time. Just because we feel a certain way doesn’t mean that we have to act on it. Forcing our emotions to take a back seat is tough, and we can’t do it using our own strength. We must admit that we’re having trouble and ask God to help us through. If we desire growth and a relationship with God we will be willing to set some things to the side.

Take a look at your definition today. Has it changed or been rearranged to integrate the views of this world, or your own actions? God wants so much for his light to radiate though us, and not be dimmed by “mixed matter”. Let us fall back on his word and enjoy the beauties of a pure life. Know that it’s going to be tough, and you won’t always get your way...but it will most definitely be worth it.

Psalm 51:10, “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me”

We (or maybe just me) have all been driving on the highway, and through careless driving we’ve weaved off the side of the road, and become startled by those loud nerve-wracking grooves. But it is that noise, that disturbance that gets you back on track and gives you a sense of appreciation. The Federal Highway Administration explains that Shoulder Rumble Strips were created to prevent off the road crashes, and to notify the driver that they had drifted from their lane. God puts the same type of strips in our lives, warning us that we have drifted and it is time to get back in our lane. It is very effective and can immediately wake you up (if you take heed), making you aware of the situation in front of you. I have had several occasions where God has used events or normal occurrences to get me back on board; even though it was nerve-wracking at the time I appreciate it now. This last time, God used a devastating breakup my senior year of college, my rumble strip, to force me to see what I hadn’t seen for so long; a hole, a gaping hole within my spiritual nature.

My dependence on men had become evident. I used their words, their actions, and the lack there of to define me, to VALIDATE me, to fill me. I was like a drug addict, addicted to the feeling that came with those actions, and words. On cloud nine one minute, and feeling worthless the next. Without those words…those actions, I felt like a speck of dust, floating in the air with no purpose.

My soul, my heart, and my whole being craved and longed for love, and a void that had been created and maintained by this world needed filling. So I tried filling it; I chased after, “you’re cute”, that long stare from across the way, and the “selection” in the club for a dance. Not realizing that each time I grabbed at that placebo filling it not only didn’t make me whole, but it also enlarged the void. I was pushing myself further and further away from where I needed to be, pursuing and craving something that always left me searching. I didn’t realize that God so desperately wanted to fill that void, and to become my everything. So He used a “rumble strip” to put me face to face with my hole. He made me realize that I was EMPTY, and no relationship would make me whole or give me complete satisfaction, except for the relationship that I needed to form with Him.

That was back in December of 2011, and I STILL face a daily battle to make God my sustainer and no one else, but making Him my source has been so rewarding. How many of us today are trying to play handyman and fill our void/hole with man-made things? Whether it is a man, material things, or yourself, I want to be your rumble strip today and tell you that those things will NEVER, EVER fill you up! You will end up back at square one, trying to figure out the thing that you think will fill in that missing piece. God is the only person that can satisfy that craving, and that desire. We must learn to seek God, and the purpose he has for our lives. Embrace God, and get to know yourself through Christ. I’ll admit it is a hard battle. I had been addicted to that way of life for so long; I didn’t think that this new way of life would give me what I needed. I was scared that I wouldn’t have what I needed to keep going each day; what would I be living for? But God has proved to be more than enough! Psalm 16:2 highlights it all, “You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.”

A well-known scripture, John 4:13-14, was highlighted at an event I was at a couple of weeks ago, and it helps to bring to focus that Jesus can fill any void: 13 “Jesus said to her, ‘Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, 14but whoever drinks of the water that I give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I give him will become a spring of water welling up to eternal life.’”

Jesus was speaking to a Samaritan woman who had had five husbands, and the man she was currently with was not her husband. He told her the water that HE would give her would quench her thirst forever; she would no longer have to jump from man to man to feel valued or worthy. She would know that her worth comes from Christ, and only Him.

What I was chasing left me thirsty, and I was constantly searching for something to satisfy that desire. However, like Jesus said He is the only source that can make you whole and put your searching to an end. So I challenge you today to look deep down inside and see your reflection. Ask yourself who is your SOURCE, who is your well, and what are you chasing after? Christ wants to fill that void for you, I encourage you to let Him and relinquish all control to Him.

Ephesians 3:19, “May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God” (nlt)
