You’re a Junior. He’s a Senior. You like the same music, go to church together, and have the same group of friends. It seems like an ideal match when you’re 16 and experiencing your first relationship. It feels like a fairy tale sometimes. You even go on a mission trip together, but the trip concludes with God revealing to you that this relationship was far from what he has planned for your life and the person you were with was with was not the man of Christ that you thought that you knew. So, it’s time for the leap of faith. The break up. Not just any break up, but the first heart break.
“Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?”- 2 Corinthians 6:14
Just because he goes to church, does not mean he is a Christian. Just because he is a Christian, does not mean he is the one. God hand picks 2 people to live out their callings together to make for an adventurous, life long, kingdom glorifying journey!
After your first heart break and any that follow, it begins to feel like an eternal battle that doesn’t end until your life turns into a fairytale and prince charming shows up. Sometimes it feels like you just keep running into the princess and the frog scenario though. The more frogs you encounter, the more timid you become.
“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.” -2 Timothy 1:7
It’s easy to begin to push people away after having multiple princess and the frog experiences. After all, nobody wants to get hurt. Nobody wants to repeat the cycle. Until the right frog shows up. The frog that kind of makes you wonder if prince charming scenarios actually happen. The frog that fully relies on god.
The truth is, no matter how Christ like a man of God is, the only prince that we’re ever going to have is Jesus. We need to stop waiting for a prince and start embracing the one that’s always been there for us.
“So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.” -2 Timothy 2:22
God places certain people in our lives for seasons so that we may learn and gain wisdom and discernment for our futures. Though we have been broken, He heals and has plans for us to have prosperous futures.
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Psalm 147;3
God provides healing of the heart so that we may have peace in times of heartbreak. When we stop focusing on the hurt from the past and start focusing on following God’s call on our lives, He brings a joy that is indescribable.
“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” John 16;33
Though we have been hurt by various frogs in our lifetime, we have a God and prince charming that is always there to love us unconditionally in a way that no earthly human could possibly love.
It’s time to let go of the past, embrace our God, our prince charming, and realize we have the fairy tale ending of eternal life.
