If God Is For You, Who Can Be Against You?

“She is way too religious.” “She’s too nice and innocent.” “Her clothes cover up her body too much. She should wear a little less.” “She needs to loosen up and have more fun.”

These phrases I have listed are remarks I am almost 100% sure every Christian girl and/or woman have been attacked with at least once in their life. A common struggle that I have found amongst many Christian girls and women is the difficulty of being a dedicated follower of Christ.

Many times in high school and in college, we are constantly ridiculed because of our beliefs and practices. We are invariably pressured to do things that lead us right down onto a road filled up with sin, such as having sex before marriage, smoking weed, getting drunk at a party, or falling into the trap of wearing clothing that doesn’t honor our body as a temple, just as The Lord says.

“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were brought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”-1 Corinthians 6:19-20

NOTE: Modest is hottest, ladies!

And when we choose not to go down this path, when we choose not to engage in these activities, we are deemed as the “outcasts,” and labeled as losers who think they are so much better than anyone and everyone else around them.

For me personally, two of the most frequent things I have been and still am persecuted for is how modest I dress and how I am “too nice and sweet.” Now, yes. It hurts sometimes. Nobody, and I repeat nobody, likes to be told any of these things. But, I’ve learned that getting these comments in return, comes with the job of being a dedicated follower of God.

When I became fresh and new in my faith, it came to have an affect on my emotions. I would worry as to why people would give me looks, or make comments that I am “over the top” with my faith and that I am “way too nice and pure” to be considered cool.

Living the life we do is a daily struggle. As a beginner, I was just starting to really dig deep into The Bible and God’s Word. I would pray to God that He would give me something to comfort me in those times where my persecution would be at it’s peak. Something that would be a reminder to me that He’s on my side, and He is cheering me along. The Lord revealed this verse to me, which became the very first piece of Scripture I ever memorized:

Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and falsely say every kind of evil against you because of Me. Be glad and rejoice, because your reward is great in heaven. For that is how they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”-Matthew 5:11-12

Ladies, remember this! It is a constant war for us, but we are all fighting it together. No one ever said it would be easy. You are a daughter and child of The King of Kings, The Lord of Lords, the Most High, the Almighty God. With Him on your side, no one can stop you. Don’t give up. Stay true to your faith and remain obedient to His Word. Hold fast to the truth. Live for Jesus and follow Him: He is worth it!

I guarantee you that all those people who are harassing you now, because of your beliefs, will one day be begging you for that same peace and happiness that you have in Jesus Christ. Don’t be a follower of men, be a worshiper of God.  Look at Jesus, He lived a life free from sin and people still hated Him.

Think about it this way. And I mean really think: The One who created the ocean, the One who created the trees, the One who created animals and bugs, the One who created the solar system, the One who created every little thing about you and everyone around you, loves you unconditionally. He loves you so much, that He laid down His life for you without thinking twice. He sacrificed Himself…for you.

The beauty of the Christian walk, is that our strength and courage cannot be found within ourselves. It is only found in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who will NEVER leave you or forsake you. You are a daughter of The King!

So here is my heart cry for all my fellow sisters in Christ out there: “DO NOT GIVE UP!” Stay true to the radiant, strong, beautiful woman that God created you to be! Hold onto Jesus, live for Jesus, and boldly proclaim the truth and love of Jesus. Wake up every morning and remind yourself that you are loved greatly by God, and that with Him on your side no one person or thing can hold you back from proclaiming His love!

1 Peter 4:16- “Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on his behalf.”

Pray that God will give you the strength to face people who persecute you. Pray to God to remind you of your worth and uniqueness when you feel low.

Reminder: The next time someone calls you names, gives you looks, and puts you down, take it as a compliment. Remind yourself that when that happens, you are putting a huge smile on God’s face! When you are with God one day, He will reward you abundantly and say, “[Your Name], I am so proud of you…”
