Peace, Be Still

Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, Be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.
-Mark 4:39

When thinking about Mark 4:39. I think about my days sitting by the bay, listening to the still waters. What great peace! Life does not always bring peace. Some may ask: “What is peace?” Peace to me is serenity. True peace comes from God, knowing he takes care of what we cannot. John 14:27 says, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

I can remember the times my heart felt troubled and afraid. It still does sometimes. Then I remember how God revealed Himself to me; how He showed me how to have peace. I was the definition of anxious. I was an emotional roller coaster. I knew there was more to life than being anxious all the time. Especially when my anxiousness started to lead to anxiety attacks. Anxiety attacks can hurt you physically, mentally, and spiritually. Having faith in God is our peace. Having peace helped me overcome anxiety. Do I still get anxious? Yes, but I now know God's remedy. A great scripture to read when you are dealing with anxiety is Psalms 91.

When you are not at peace call out to God. Talk to Him like you would a friend. He has your name etched in the palm of His hands and no matter how alone you may feel, He is still there. When you have a bad day, read your bible and pray. Prayer changes any situation for the better. Here are seven verses, one for each day of the week. Tuck them into your heart, they will help you build inner peace, fight the enemy.

Monday – Hebrews 13:6

“For who, having heard, rebelled? Indeed, was it not all who came out of Egypt, led by Moses?”

Tuesday – Psalm 62:5–6

“My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved.”

Wednesday – Isaiah 43:1

“But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel: 'Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are Mine.'”

Thursday – Philippians 4:6–7
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Friday – Psalm 32:7
“You are my hiding place; you shall preserve me from trouble; you shall surround me with songs of deliverance.

Saturday – Psalm 63:7–8

“Because you have been my help, therefore in the shadow of your wings I will rejoice.
My soul follows close behind you; your right hand upholds me."

Sunday – Isaiah 54:10
“For the mountains shall depart and the hills be removed, But my kindness shall not depart from you, nor shall my covenant of peace be removed, Says the Lord, who has mercy on you.”

Anyone can have peace. Peace comes from within. It is our faith we have in Him. God is Peace, Be Still! He is the calmness in the day, the calmness in the night.

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust.”

Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler
And from the perilous pestilence.
He shall cover you with His feathers,
And under His wings you shall take refuge;
His truth shall be your shield and buckler.
You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,
Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness,
Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

A thousand may fall at your side,
And ten thousand at your right hand;
But it shall not come near you.
Only with your eyes shall you look,
And see the reward of the wicked.

Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge,
Even the Most High, your dwelling place,
No evil shall befall you,
Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;
For He shall give His angels charge over you,
To keep you in all your ways.
In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.
You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra,
The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.

“Because he has set his love upon me, therefore I will deliver him;
I will set him on high, because he has known my name.
He shall call upon me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will deliver him and honor him.
With long life I will satisfy him,
And show him my salvation.”
