The Longing Within

How can I explain this longing I'm experiencing right now?  I can't.  But,  I totally get Moses when he boldly asked God to "Please, show me your glory."  Moses was a man who had the unique opportunity to see the power and presence of God manifested to Him through amazing miracles, signs and wonders. He received supernatural provision from God. Yet, he longed for more. He desired an even greater revelation. Moses was not satisfied with what he had once experienced.  Moses wanted to be closer than he was. He wanted more of the God that he so loved. More of the God that so loved him. Once you've tasted of God, and encountered Him, you absolutely have to have more.  Nothing else can ever satisfy.  We were created by Him and for Him. For His will and pleasure.

I know that a lot of you reading this may be at this same place. You just want more of God. You simply want to be closer. Even now, as I'm thinking about this longing in my own heart, I smile. I smile because I know that the one I desire, greatly desires me. He wants me to be closer than I could ever imagine.  He wants me closer to Him than I could possibly ever want for myself. And I must tell you, if you have that intense desire today, please know that God placed that desire in your heart. This is His way of letting you know that He desires you. By causing you to seek Him and cry out to Him so that this longing would be fulfilled. God caused you to desire what He desires for you.

Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you your heart’s desires. (Psalms 37:4 NLT).

Many people take this scripture to mean that God will give you anything you absolutely want. But, as human beings, our personal desires can sometimes be fleshly and not aligned with God's purposes for us. So, God will not give us things that we desire which may be contrary to His plans. Things which may be harmful for us. This scripture means that, as we walk with God, He changes our hearts. We begin to desire what He desires. So, for those with an intense longing for Him, know that He gave you this desire and only He can satisfy it. Know that God is causing you to desire Him, because His desire is always for you. He loves you so much and wants nothing more than communion and fellowship with His precious creation.

We will never find contentment or fulfillment in anyone or anything other than God. Of course, God knows this. But we, His creation, sometimes we tend to forget. And we may look for it in a relationship. In a career.  With our family. The list could go on. God did give us all of these things to enjoy. But, none of these things could ever satisfy this longing that God has placed in our hearts. Our Father wants us to be one with Him. Communing and fellowshipping with Him continually.

As those created for Him, we must seek to remain in His presence. Today, I encourage you to yield to the intense longing. Seek Him and you will find Him.

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29:13 NIV)

Seek Him. Seek the one who desires to satisfy the longing that He placed in your heart.
Seek Him in the everyday. He is always present.
Seek Him in the overwhelming moments.
Seek Him in the seemingly, mundane moments. He wants to reveal Himself to you.

Smile, knowing that your Father has purposed good for you. No good thing will He withhold from you. Seek Him and you will find Him.
