The Perfect Bridegroom

I’m a writer, and I absolutely adore metaphors. I love the way metaphors place paint to a blank canvas in an attempt to explain words, which cannot be otherwise expressed. There are so many things words can only begin to describe.
The love Christ has for His bride is one of these things.
The Song of Solomon is one of the most picturesque, vivid pieces of literature I have ever read. And it also happens to be a piece of the very living, active, Spirit-breathed Word of our God.
For the past few weeks, I’ve been submerging myself in this text, and to say my heart is changed would be an understatement. God has been speaking, revealing just how wide, long, high, deep is the love Christ has for His bride.
Our Bridegroom is so beautiful, my dear friends. Some believe the Song of Solomon passages refer to a real historical bride and bridegroom.  Regardless of whether this is the case; the book also lends insight into Christ’s relationship as the bridegroom to the bride.
In the text, we can find ways we to relate to the greatness of God’s love.  For example, in the book the bride speaks of finding all her deepest longings and desires fulfilled in the midst of His presence.
For Your love is more delightful than wine. (1:2) Draw me after You; let us run. (1:4) You are beautiful, my Beloved, truly delightful. (1:16) With great delight I sat in His shadow, and His fruit was sweet to my taste. (2:3) My Beloved is mine, and I am His. (2:16)
Just as it is my prayer that we would begin to fall in love with God in the same way the bride loves her Bridegroom, I also pray in the same breath we would have a clearer vision of the love God has for us.
Take just a moment today and meditate on the truth – not only does God love you with a love that is eternal, but He delights in you. God finds joy in being with you; God yearns for you, and He jealously pursues, out of His desire and passion, to be with you. In Song of Solomon, the Bridegroom speaks vividly and passionately about the delight He finds in His beloved.
How beautiful you are, My darling! Oh, how beautiful! (1:15) Like a lily among thorns is My darling among the young women. (2:2) You are altogether beautiful, My love; there is no flaw in you. (4:7) You have captivated My heart, My sister, My bride; you have captivated My heart with one glance of your eyes, with one jewel of your necklace. (4:9) Arise, My love, My beautiful one, and come away…let Me see your face, let me hear your voice, for your voice is sweet, and your face is lovely. (2:13b, 14b)
Beloved, know that finding satisfaction for every dried part of your thirsty, longing soul, all you need do is run to the arms of the Bridegroom Himself, for He delights in you, and His desire is for you.
I am my Beloved’s, and His desire is for me. – Song of Solomon 7:10
What steps will you take today toward the One who loves you most? What insecurities do you need to hand over to Christ so that His love might heal you?
