Clean As You Go

"Clean as you go!"

This is a phrase that one of my brother’s in Christ shared with me while we were cooking together for a party that he catered. He said that this is something that one of his Professors shared with him in culinary school. I thought, “Wow!,” that is such a simple yet powerful statement and it has stuck with me ever since.

I guess it made me really think about when one is simply cooking in the kitchen, and how quickly a mess can accumulate. Sometimes one can be so concentrated on cooking everything perfectly, that a certain level of focus is lost as a reminder to take care of not only the ingredients, but the cooking environment.

Cleaning and properly preparing, the area that one is about to serve food in, is quite important and often gets overlooked, and this truly applies to any type of provision that is taking place.

In order for one to receive the full benefits of the blessings of what is being presented, there must be clarity. [click to tweet]

What person—I can speak for myself—likes to partake in an amazing meal surrounded by garbage? I am sure there would be a stench in the air that would prevent one from enjoying the meal. It might also make one second guess the cleanliness of the food and it's preparation.

It is quite awesome to be, sit, rest, move, and receive in an environment that is unsoiled, unspotted, and unstained. That is Christ. He cleans us as we go along.

As we cook up things in our lives that have spoiled or lost it's nourishment, or have accumulated and become part of our recipe for life—with a list of ingredients that have made us who we are today; He is cleaning. And if God is cleaning as we go, that means He is moving, measuring, adding, and taking away. He is wiping or throwing out unnecessary things and applying heat, coolness, and more, to every part of our lives as we go along. Just like when one is cooking in the kitchen.

It is not until you eat the finished product [tap into someone's life], that you learn, see, taste and sense the intricate details of what has been put into creating that dish [them].

Sometimes the dish can be presented so perfect and in such a way that it looks so appealing, and appetizing, but leave a bad taste because it was not properly prepared. Something went wrong in the process and  when light is shed, it illuminates the truth and the problem.

It is so funny how in Christ, things can seem so clean and unspotted. The finished dish [creation] comes out just right. It is because of all of the things that were unseen in the preparation process, that God cleaned as He went along. That is how God presents us because, we are covered by Him. His blood. He polishes and cleans us in and through His perfect will.

God is the salt that purifies us through His grace and mercy. [click to tweet]

“Salt is good for seasoning. But if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty again? (Luke 14:34 NLT)

It is through Christ who purifies our lives daily that we become the salt of the earth. We may have the appearance of being unsoiled, unspotted, and unstained, but it is only because of Christ that we are a flavorful dish [creation], that others can taste and see the goodness of the Lord in our lives.
