Get Over Yourself

Life, as we know it, can be filled with so many things that try to discourage us. You need to be able to encourage others. And, you need to know how to encourage yourself in the Lord. God began to deal with me a few weeks ago when I was having what I call, one of my moments. Because, even though I am a Pastor, and teacher, I still have "my moments". Moments where I actually read God my little list of "stuff". It sounds like this...

"God, I'm not this..." 

"God, I need to be doing this..."

I have moments where I battle with, "God, I'm not doing enough," "God, I'm a bible teacher, " or "I need to spend hours upon hours in your word."

"I need to be doing more God!"

"I'm not doing enough!"

And then, I fight feelings of guilt because I'm not as perfect as I feel I need to be. And I beat myself up. Anybody ever had any moments like this? Well, God began to check me as I was having one of those moments a few weeks ago. He had to grab, and refocus me, and remind me of what He says in the gospel of John. 

(John 15:16 NKJV)

You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.

God reminded me, 

"Hold up! I chose you! You didn't choose m,e and I knew exactly what I was doing. You're reading me this little list of stuff! Don't you know I'm bigger than your little so-called weaknesses?"

Sometimes, when we start looking at ourselves, we easily forget that our God is, the God for whom nothing is impossible. He's more powerful than anything we'll ever struggle with. He knows things about us that we don't know about ourselves. We think we know us. But, God sees it all. He knows the true condition of our hearts. Yet, He still loves us. The stuff doesn't negate the fact that you're still chosen. The stuff doesn't change what He's purposed for your life. 

God is more powerful than your little personal struggles. He's much more bigger than that. And even with whatever you say is a fault or a weakness. Even with areas that you say are imperfections. His grace is available and sufficient for you. And none of your “stuff” changes how He feels about you. He loves you.

Those things that you do or don't do, can only change how you feel about yourself, if you allow them to. 

See, the enemy does not want you to see yourself as the righteousness of God. That's who you are. The enemy doesn't want you to see yourself as a royal priesthood. A holy people that have been bought with a price. The enemy comes to steal the knowledge of your true identity in Christ. He'll lie and tell you, you can never be used by God, because your [fill in the blank]. But the Word tells us we are God's workmanship created for good works which Christ prepared beforehand that we should walk in. The enemy will lie because he doesn't want you to see yourself as one deserving of the grace, favor and love of God. The enemy wants you to look at yourself with eyes of condemnation and guilt. He wants you to see yourself as unworthy. Undeserving. Never good enough. But, Jesus died on the cross and gave you total victory over every struggle. Over sin. Over shame. Over guilt. You are not that which you may struggle with. He's already overcome it all. 

We have to believe what our Father says about us.
