I am not sure about you but I have definitely been in a position before where I have felt like what I wanted to say, do, or contribute was not worth offering. I felt it was not good enough, or rather I was not good enough, so why even bother? I did not have the strength to not be a victim to this mindset, so I just gave in to it. This really did not do me any good because at the end of the day, I felt worse.
Why would we ever think that what we want and have to share is not valuable? Something in our lives contributes to this deception.
Even when we do not have the strength to find out what that is, we still need to press through the discomfort to see where the wound is. At this point it is has been our continuous pattern of thinking and living. This is a state of living where we do not feel we have the strength to fight within, we in sense lie there and let things happen to us. We do not have it in us to find something that usually numbs or gratifies the pain, waiting patiently on God would take too long, and being a victim just seems like the easy way out.
You keep telling yourself you are not good enough, again you have nothing to contribute, and so you are not really worth the fight. At least in embodying a victim of pain, sorrow, loss, or discomfort would embrace you; so you think.
I am not talking about being a victim by circumstance but rather by choice. When we choose continuously to live in and from a mindset that is bringing us closer to spiritual death rather than life.
What is funny is that sometimes you do not even know that you are living in this space because it has been your way of survival and has helped you get through at one time. It was what you felt you needed to make it, or basically stay alive; but now that this season of your life has changed, it is actually weighing you down. You can no longer wear the layers of protection that once kept you warm.
God is calling you to a new season where the layers have to drop so you can be free to move as He calls you to the next level. If those warm comfort clothes of the past do not fit anymore, why are we still trying to squeeze into them?
I am not saying that getting out of this "comfortable" place will be easy because I am sure it will hurt; but I am saying that if we want life, people, things, relationships, and circumstances around us to stretch, then we have to be willing to stretch a bit too. I know I do. I am constantly being challenged to not just do enough, or take what I believe I deserve but to see myself as God sees me.
What He sees is much better than what I can see. Our human eyes have limitations based on what we have experienced but the eyes of God see beyond what we have obtained.
Sometimes we can only see our set backs. Deceptions that have been placed as truths within the reservoir of our hearts. If we are only seeing from this angle, then we are definitely only seeing a limited perspective; and from these limitations, why would you see yourself as valuable?
The story of the woman at the well in John chapter four gives insight into this idea.
The woman was surprised, for Jews refuse to have anything to do with Samaritans. She said to Jesus, “You are a Jew, and I am a Samaritan woman. Why are you asking me for a drink?” Jesus replied, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.” (John 4:9-10 New Living Translation)
I believe God was saying to her, "If only you could see yourself as I see you, then you would know there is so much more in store for you that goes beyond your past and how you see yourself."
When we know and become aware of all the promises God has for us, we can truly understand how deep and wide His love is for us. When we understand how much we are loved, we are able to understand our value, and grow in ways we could never imagine.
It has taken me years to do this work and it is a continuous process, but I just want to let you know today that you are valuable, and you do matter.
Do not let your past, deceptions, people, or circumstances keep you from where God wants to take you.
You do not have to be a victim, and once you realize you that, the only person that can really stop you, is you.
The bible says, "No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord. (Isaiah 54:17 New King James Version)
You have the power through Christ.
